Your Own Temptation Island

TV has, for better or worse, dramatically changed our cultural paradigm. Forget academically-focused, 19th century Orientalist art--it's all about Reality TV. So, Girl Friday Night strongly advocates joining 'em if you can't beat 'em. This week, take a cue from one of TV's newest (and most scandalous) programs and create your own little hotbed of sin.

After having carefully considered the main motivation of the newest TV sensation Temptation Island, Girl Friday Night has come to the hasty and obvious conclusion that the appeal lies in sex and jealousy. And, sweetie darlings, jealousy is the oldest trick in the book.

Rein in the wisdom received from primetime and allow a little bit of jealousy to spice up your love life. Be forewarned, however, dear reader, playing with fire can get you burned.

Now, the essential element of using jealousy is the knowledge that you can drive home to your mate that you are a beautiful, sexy, wonderful being who can attract more bees to the hive. Sexual jealousy probably stems from some genetically embedded desire to ensure the proliferation of our own biological offspring from the alpha female and all that jazz. But, this column says that sexual jealousy is only a means to an end.

When first hatching your manipulative and devious plan (because, hey, let's admit it-- this is just pure evil) ask yourself what you hope to accomplish. Are you just trying to grab some attention or are you truly willing to put your relationship at risk for some romp in the sack with a beautiful stranger? As for Girl Friday, along with jealousy rearing its ugly head comes some pretty spicy loving afterward. Passion at any cost, right girls? Anyway, after you've assured yourself of your not-so-innocent goals, know that all's fair in love and war. Now, enough of the philosophizing and onto the how-to.

Assuming you haven't forgotten how to shake your groove thang, it's time to hit the area abuzz with activity. Dust off your mojo, shorten your skirt and strap on your heels--it's time to go dancing. Once there (and I do suggest bringing a gaggle of girlfriends--you don't know what sort of freaks are out there these days) do your best to look sexy and seductive. Don't be shy about approaching strangers yourself and making polite conversation. Remember, the most effective seductress is the one who exudes confidence and intelligence.

Assuming you've zeroed in on your prey, don't be coy about just being a girl. Touch his arm lightly when you're making an important point. Throw your head back and expose your neck when laughing. Speak volumes with your eyes. Bat your eyelashes--that's what they're there for. Hopefully, before the situation progresses too much your mate might notice the stimulating conversation you're having with the sexy stranger at the bar. Make eye contact with him. There's nothing that stokes a libido more than some competition. And, after all, that's the real fun of being a girl.
