What is Abstinence?
Abstinence is the decision to abstain from sexual intercourse. It has become popularly known as refraining from sexual contact altogether, but many people who practice abstinence also enjoy other expressions of sexuality. Here, abstinence is considered the practice of abstaining from all sexual relations with a partner.
Why would one practice Abstinence?
There are a myriad of reasons why one might consider practicing abstinence. Chief among them is the fact that abstinence is the only form of birth control that is 100% effective in preventing both STDs and pregnancy.
Others practice abstinence for moral, religious and psychological reasons. Those looking for a profound connection between themself and their partner may wait until they find that perfect match. Those who have experience a traumatic emotional experience may choose to abstain from sexual activity to help themselves cope.
Abstinence is a safe, effective way to prevent unwanted pregnancy and STDs, and is thus a worthy decision
